Depending on your inclination towards water, this may or may not be the thing for you. It’s a growing tradition in Austin to head on over to Barton Springs and jump into the 68 water on January 1st. As we are Texans, the 68 degree water is considered plenty chilly, particularly when the air temperature can be many degrees colder. The Save Our Springs Alliance is the host for this free event and provides coffee, donuts, water and also sells commemorative “Polar Bear Splash” t-shirts for $15. You can learn more about it here... For Jan 1, 2014, the official plunge time is 10 am. However, you can go anytime from 9:30 am to 2 pm to buy your t-shirt (after you jump in of course). Barton Springs is open from 5 am to 10 pm on this Wed Jan 1. Barton Springs is at 2101 Barton Springs Road So come on out on Jan 1st and support the Save Our Springs Alliance and take a dip in Barton Springs. It’s an extremely refreshing way to start the new year and will certainly get your blood pumping, particularly if you’re a little hung over from last night’s festivities. We’ll see you there!
