With so much entertainment at our fingertips, we have an endless amount of opportunity to audibly tailor our workout experience. Music playlists during a workout can offer a great deal of inspiration! Here is a list of suggested music to get you moving…. Some obvious, some obscure.
Contrary to what we would all like to think, most of us don’t look forward to spending time on workout equipment for one reason or another. Whether you’re at the gym or in your living room, chances are you have access to a TV. Battle boredom and resist the urge to cut your sweat session short by watching these recommended shows. They’re the ones that inspire us, entertain us, or at the very least distract us from the task at hand.
Pure alcohol is very high in calories. For instance Everclear has 226 calories per 1.5 oz and is 190 proof (95%) alcohol, the rest basically is water. Technically Everclear is the lowest calorie alcohol if you compare it to the alcohol percentage. Calories vary from drink to drink but the key to getting the most bang for your buck is picking drinks with the best Calorie from Alcohol ratio.
Top 10 Secrets for Loving your workout and sticking to your New Year's resolution
Every New Year we commit (and sometimes recommit) to achieving goals we’ve always wanted to accomplish. Getting in shape is the most common goal set for the New Year. Most of us get excited and join the nearest gym to start the New Year only to have a couple weeks go by and lose the initial motivation. Life starts to take over and our fitness goals are put on the back burner. Here are some tips to make this year’s resolution last and finally achieve your fitness goals.
Austin Monthly - Wellness Programs WHY YOU SHOULD PARTICIPATE TODAY
Health, wealth and happiness can easily be achieved by becoming actively involved in a Wellness Program (WP). There are many benefits that come with participation in one of these programs—for an individual, it means lowered health care costs, reduced absenteeism, reduced occurrence of illness, and higher productivity to name a few. It can also benefit an employer by reducing workers’ compensation and disability-related costs and injuries, as well as improving employee morale and loyalty...
Opening his business in the Rutland Business Center, an industrial office park that offers warehouse access, saves owner Kyle May about four times on shipping costs.
Every other month a semitrailer brings in thousands of pounds of fitness equipment for his business, Austin Fitness Rentals. In the back warehouse he assembles the machines, which often weigh as much as 650 pounds each. The front half of May’s space is used for the showroom because 50 percent of his customers want to view the equipment in person.
Austin Monthly - Get Fitter Faster HIIT-High Intensity Interval Training
A frequent question we get at Austin Fitness Rentals is, “What is the best machine for getting the quickest results?” In our fast-paced society it is not surprising that people want the most effective workout in the shortest time possible. While there is no one perfect machine or perfect workout, there is a type of training that is...
While the official Austin Bike To Work Day isn’t happening for a couple of months yet, Friday May 16, 2014 to be exact, there’s no time like the present to get in a little practice. If you’ve been in Austin longer than about 2 minutes you have experienced our traffic. While it certainly gets worse during such events as the just-ended SXSW, we have so many events here as well as 110 net new people arriving everyday...
If you've read and followed the advice from the Jan 27 blog "Get To Know Your Resting Metabolic Rate" you know your caloric expenditure when at rest. The idea behind this post is to expand what you know about your caloric needs by incorporating some additional detail.
As you've seen in previous posts, I'm really excited about the FreeMotion i11.9 incline trainers. Beyond the excellent workout that you can get on an incline trainer, they also have another high tech feature that makes working out on these machines that much better! In fact, one of our recent customers had this to say about a workout she completed on the i11.9 - "Best treadmill workout EVER. That was so much fun!" Yep, I heartily agree with that assessment.
Join or Start Your Company’s Wellness Program - February 16 2014
While this post isn’t necessarily local to Austin since its an encouragement for all readers everywhere to join their company’s Wellness Program (WP), I will highlight one local Austin-based company and its WP with which I’m personally involved. I cannot over-stress the importance of getting involved with your company’s WP. Beyond the obvious health benefits, there can also be some great financial benefits. The immediate and personalized help provided directly to you can truly be a life changing event.
Incline Training - If You Haven't Tried It, You Really Should
I really hope you had the chance to get out and enjoy this weekend's incredible weather after that city-closing winter blast we had on Friday. Not sure why Austin shut down for the day. We were all at the shop and had no trouble navigating the completely dry streets. One Austin Fitness Rentals pro did report seeing a snowflake at some point during the morning commute. Perhaps that was the snowpocalypse that caused all schools, city offices, and seemingly every other bureaucratically controlled organization to shutter for the day.
Feb 2, 2014 and the world's favorite pudgy weather prognosticator has told us that we can expect 6 more weeks of winter. Every year on Groundhog Day I wonder (and then quickly forget after looking it up) how accurate the fuzzy little forecaster's predictions have been. I'll include the results of a quick Wiki search here, "Of these 117 predictions on record so far, Punxsutawney Phil has predicted an "early spring" 16 times (13.7%). As to his accuracy, according to the StormFax Weather Almanac and records kept since 1887, Phil's predictions have been correct 39% of the time."
This week's activity blog post isn't about getting to know Austin better as the earlier posts have been, its about getting to know your body better. I'll post a few of these from time to time and I hope that they'll be useful to you.
I've been asked more than a few times how I came up with the idea for Austin Fitness Rentals. While its a relatively long story that happened over the course of many years, perhaps I can briefly relate the salient points. I initially retired from the world of health sciences government contracting in 2006 to cofound an Internet business called CoKnown. While that was interesting from a technical perspective, it didn't allow me to fully utilize my passion for health and fitness. As a health sciences expert I wanted to find something that really spoke to me and allowed me to directly help people. After a final brief stint once again in the government contracting arena in 2010, I resolved to never again return to that profession and decided to buy or start a new business that met my goals.
Walk, Run, Ride or Skip - the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail
Surprisingly, there are many native and long-time Austinites that have yet to enjoy what is commonly referred to as the “town lake trail”. The Trail Foundation estimates this Austin jewel receives 1.5 million visitors per year and that number is expanding with Austin’s ever-increasing population.
Elliptical Cross-Trainer, It Can Be The Perfect Machine For You - VIDEOS
How are you doing on those New Year's resolutions? Did you make any? Did they involve exercise? About 38% of Americans made some type of resolution that had to do with a weight-loss goal. Various sources report that 12-14% of us make a resolution specifically about exercise. Since there are 314 million people in the US, that's anywhere from 38,000,000 to 44,000,000 people looking to exercise come January 1. No wonder the gym gets crowded around this time of year!
This blog post title has a double meaning, its intentional and important. First, I’m highly encouraging you to find an organized event, any event, train for it and complete it this year. If you’ve never done this before, you’ll be absolutely amazed by the experience. From the camaraderie you’ll find with your fellow fitness enthusiasts during the training to the intense and spectacular feeling ...
Austin Free Week - How Many Calories Can You Burn?
We are just after the start of Austin Free Week. It runs from Jan 2 to the 11th. To those not in the know, Austin Free Week started with one club in 2003 and has since expanded to include over 20 venues and 300 bands in 10 days. Clearly, with this many venues and artists, its not possible in this blog post to list out all of the places and bands.
New Years Day Barton Springs Polar Bear Plunge & Swim
Depending on your inclination towards water, this may or may not be the thing for you. It’s a growing tradition in Austin to head on over to Barton Springs and jump into the 68 water on January 1st. As we are Texans, the 68 degree water is considered plenty chilly, particularly when the air temperature can be many degrees colder.
As its almost Christmas, we’re having folks come in to the shop to talk to us about getting exercise equipment for their loved ones. One of the most common questions is, what’s the most effective workout? Unless the customer has something specific in mind and wants more detail on a particular workout routine, my usual response is to introduce the concept of HIIT.
Showroom Location Found at 2136 Rutland Drive Suite C Austin 78758
After a very lengthy search of commercial property available for lease in Austin, we are thrilled to announce we found a location for opening our Austin Fitness Rentals showroom. Though our company formed at the beginning of August 2013, it took us a few months to find the exact spot we wanted to call home. To be more specific it took 6 months as I began looking at properties in April 2013.
When I started this company I made the decision that we would carry only commercial, health-club-quality exercise equipment. This decision was based on a great deal of research and discussions with many experts in the fitness equipment industry. I spent close to 2 months researching all of the exercise equipment options and consulted with 9 experts who each had on average 21 years of experience selling, servicing and providing warranty support to over 20 different manufacturers.
